<p>At a meeting with the TMC officials at Kodamanithaya Daivasthana on Sunday, it was decided to visit Alevoor and Kundapur to study solid waste management units. The date for the visit will be decided on next Sunday. <br /><br /> TMC Member Krishnaraj Hegde said the officials should not carry out any work in the land identified for the unit till the villagers give their nod. The villagers asked why solid waste management unit was not set up in 40 acre land acquired at Alangar. If there was a case in the court, the officials should have worked towards disposing off the case. The officials should come to Karinje after solving the problems created by the solid waste unit at Vamanjoor. <br /><br />Karinje Kshethra seer Mukthananda Swamy said: “We will not allow the setting up of the unit without the permission from the villagers.” <br /><br />TMC Vice-President Ramani warned of tendering resignation if the officials go ahead to set up the unit in spite of the opposition from the villagers. <br />DC meet<br />Deputy Commissioner Dr Channappa Gowda said that solid waste management unit at Marinjegudde near Karinje in Moodbidri will be set up in a scientific way. <br /><br />Interacting with the TMC members and the villagers following the villagers opposing the move to start solid waste management unit, he said the Supreme Court order of 2002 stated that all the local bodies should maintain solid waste management units without harming the environment. However, Dakshina Kannada is lagging behind in following the order of the Supreme Court. <br /><br />The district administration has to submit a report to the court on the measures taken to set up solid waste management units before December, DC said.
