Mumbai: At least six persons were missing and feared dead when a boat capsized at the Ujni Dam’s backwaters along the Pune-Solapur boundary in Maharashtra.

One person was able to swim to safety.

The incident took place on Tuesday night at the Kalashi village in the Indapur tehsil in the Pune district.

The victims include three men, two women and one child.

While the district administration, police and teams of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were able to reach the site at night, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rushed a specialised team on Wednesday .

The search and rescue  (S&R) operations are underway.

However, the chances of survival of those who are missing are slim.

Baramati MP and Nationalist Congress Party (SP) Working President Supriya Sule rushed to the spot and took stock of the S&R operations.
