<p>Guwahati: <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/india/manipur">Manipur</a> police on Sunday said it recovered eight out of the nine sophisticated weapons looted by suspected Valley-based insurgents from a police outpost in Meitei-dominated Thoubal district on Saturday. </p><p>The unidentified gunmen looted arms from the India Reserve Battalion outpost in Thoubal district, officials said on Sunday.</p><p>Police said around 30 miscreants equipped with sophisticated weapons overpowered the personnel at Kakmayai police outpost and looted six SLRs, three AK series rifles and ammunition. </p><p>"However, the security personnel fought and could detain one of the miscreants, namely Hijam Ningthem Singh of Moirangpurel Mamang Leikai, who was later identified as a member of Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP). During further course of investigation and relentless search operations at different locations, police recovered eight (more weapons) on Sunday," police said in a statement on Sunday night.</p>.Five acres of illicit poppy cultivation destroyed in Manipur.<p>KCP is a valley based banned insurgent group. </p><p>The seized weapons included five SLRs and three AK series rifles, recovered at Ngamukhong foothill in Thoubal. In a subsequent operation, the security forces busted a hideout of the KCP at Langathel Chingkhong area and recovered 48 live rounds of ammuntion of AK series rifles, 11 HE grenades, one 9mm pistol, beside other items.</p><p>In another development, police stormed the hideout of NRFM, another valley-based insurgent group, and arrested seven cadre members at Tellou Makha Leikai area. They recovered two A1 assault rifles, one AK 47 rifle, two INSAS rifles, two SLRs, beside other arms and ammunition.</p><p>More than 6,000 weapons were similarly looted from armouries in the valley in May 2023 when the conflict involving the Meitei and the Kukis erupted. More than half have still not been recovered.</p>
