<p>Guwahati: Two minor girls, who were recruited by People's Liberation Army (PLA), an armed group in Meitei-dominated Valley in Manipur, were rescued recently from Kakching and Thoubal district, police said on Tuesday. </p><p>Police said the two girls were rescued from Kakching Bazar and Wangbal Laikon areas. The duo were produced in the Child Welfare Committee in Thoubal for necessary measures as per provisions in the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act. </p>.No peace in Manipur at gunpoint, Opposition MPs urge PM Modi to visit state.<p>Police also arrested two cadres of PLA, Moirangthem Romen Singh (23) and Nongmaithem Mohendro Singh (54) from Thoubal on charges of recruitment of the two minor girls. </p><p>This is not the first such case in conflict-torn Manipur. On March 5, police detained three juvenile boys, who were allegedly recruited by United Kuki National Army, a Kuki insurgent group, from Kuki-dominated Churachandpur district. </p><p><strong>Child soldiers</strong></p><p>Police launched a drive against recruitment of minors by armed groups days after Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) raised an alarm over recruitment of children (below 18 years) by armed groups, both in the hills and the Valley. </p>.Tension looms over Manipur as Kukis enforce 'indefinite blockade' to Centre's free movement initiative.<p>MCPCR chairperson, Keisham Pradip Kumar earlier told DH that the number of recruitment of child soldiers increased since the Meitei-Kuki conflict began in May 2023. He said what was more worrying is the recruitment of children at the community levels in order to "defend" their villages and the communities, be it Meiteis, Kukis or Nagas. </p><p>Pradip Kumar said the large number of displaced children living in relief camps across Manipur were vulnerable for such recruitments as the conflict was still on and there was no solution in sight. </p>
