Several people were feared dead after five houses and a hotel collapsed due to landslides triggered by heavy rain in south Mizoram's Lawngtlai town, officials said.

The incident occurred around 10:30 pm on Friday in the border area of Bazar Veng and Chandmary localities in Lawngtlai when the landslides struck the houses and the hotel, they said.

Several people from Myanmar, who were staying at the hotel, were believed to be trapped under the debris, the officials said.

Hundreds of people were shifted to relief camps from low-lying areas of Kerala as flood entered their houses with monsoon rains gaining further strength in the state.

Roads were submerged and inundation made life miserable in high ranges and neighbouring towns in northern districts of the state.

Local people said swollen rivers and their overflowing tributaries were the reason for the subemerging of low-lying areas.

In Kasaragod, overflowing Madhuvahini River washed way roads and flooded houses in many areas.

People could be seen shifted to the first floor of their houses as flood entered the the ground floor.

Flooding looms large over neighbouring Kozhikode and Kannur districts as well where heavy downpour has been causing widespread destruction. (PTI)

Rain Updates LIVE | Flash floods, landslides reported across Arunachal amid heavy rain

Heavy rainfall over the past few days has led to flash floods and landslides in several districts of Arunachal Pradesh, severely disrupting normal life, officials said on Saturday.

In Upper Subansiri, flash floods caused extensive damage in Daporijo, the district headquarters, after the Sigin River overflowed, inundating several low-lying areas, they said.

At least 117 houses, along with several vital infrastructure in the district, were affected due to inclement weather conditions.

The most impacted localities include Polo Colony, Sigum Rijo, Sigin Colony, Bukpen Colony, and Forest Colony, the officials said.

However, no human casualties have been reported, they said. (PTI)

Rain Updates LIVE | Rajasthan sees rain in several places

Parts of Rajasthan were sprayed with light to medium rain, while Kishanganj of Baran district was splashed with 21 mm of precipitation -– the highest --, authorities said on Saturday.

In the 24 hours till 8.30 am today, Ajmer Tehsil recorded 17 mm rainfall, Dungargarh of Bikaner with 11 mm, and Peeplu of Tonk and Sujangarh of Churu, which received 100 mm each.

Several places in the state recorded rainfall ranging from 1 to 9 mm.

On Friday, the highest maximum temperature in the state was recorded in Jaisalmer at 43.6 degrees.

No heat wave/high night temperature was reported anywhere in the state.

The lowest temperature in the state was recorded at 22.1 degrees in Sirohi. (PTI)

Rain Updates LIVE | Odisha farmers hit by unseasonal rains to get assistance soon

Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management minister Suresh Pujari said the government has decided to provide financial assistance for crop and house damage due to unseasonal rain between May 27 and 30 as per the norms of State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).

The state government this month had declared unseasonal rain as a state-specific disaster. The farmers and affected people will get assistance from SDRF. A maximum of 10 per cent of the annual allocation of SDRF can be utilised for this purpose, the minister said.

"The affected people will get assistance as per the report of district collectors", Pujari said at the review meeting on preparedness for monsoon held here on Friday evening.

He that efforts are on to provide assistance to all those who suffered due to unseasonal rains. (PTI)

Rain Updates LIVE | Fresh snowfall in higher reaches of Kashmir, rain lashes plains

Several areas in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir received fresh snowfall on Saturday while the plains were lashed by rain.

Snowfall was recorded in Tulail and Razdan Top areas of Gurez valley in north Kashmir's Bandipora district, Peer Ki Gali in south Kashmir's Shopian, Zojila Pass along the Srinagar-Leh highway and some other areas in the higher reaches, officials said.

They said the authorities have closed the Bandipora-Gurez road as a precautionary measure in the wake of snowfall.

The plains of the valley, including Srinagar, were lashed by rain.

The inclement weather caused temperatures to drop across Kashmir.

While the minimum temperature went down by up to 3 degrees, the maximum temperature on Friday was 3-5 degrees below normal, the meteorological department said.

It said there is a possibility of widespread light to moderate rain or thundershowers with light snow over the higher reaches over the next 24 hours. (PTI)
