<p>The two channels have been issued show cause notices by the Information & Broadcasting Ministry for violating provisions of the Section 5 of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995, which mandates that channels cannot show anything that “offends against good taste or decency”, “contains anything obscene” and “denigrates women”, among other things.<br /><br />In “Splitsvilla-3”, the participating five couples can change partners with any of the 10 single boys and girls in the show. <br /><br />“The format of the programme appears to be highly objectionable as individuals indulge in all kinds of tricks to remain in the game including backbiting, cheating, etc.,” a show cause notice to MTV says.<br /><br />“The show contains visuals which appear to be obscene and vulgar. The programme also denigrates women by depicting them in a bad light. The show is not suitable for children and for unrestricted public exhibition,” the notice says.<br /><br />In “Emotional Attyachar”, which is based on the concept of love and infidelity and tries to reveal the “real truth” behind relationships by conducting sting operations on unsuspecting people, many episodes “appear to denigrate women” by portraying them in a “bad light”, the I&B ministry has said.<br /><br />“The visuals are not suitable for children and for unrestricted public exhibition…The intimate visuals between the so called ‘suspect’ and the channel’s ‘Undercover’ agents are vulgar and obscene,” the notice to Bindass says. <br /><br />“The programme not only plays with the sentiments of couples who are in relationship but also shows the faces of cheating partners on the screen without blurring. This could adversely affect their future life and career. The programme also invariably shows couples screaming and mouthing filthy language once the footage of the sting operation is shown,” it points out.<br /><br />Both the channels have been asked to show cause as to why action should not be taken against them for violating the provisions of the Uplinking Guidelines. <br /><br />The ministry has pointed out that in the past too, four show cause notices had been issued to MTV, which was asked to run an apology scroll for three days for violation of Programme Code in “Vodaphone MTV Splitsvilla-2”.
