NSA Doval speaks to Iranian counterpart

New Delhi: National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Sunday spoke to his Iranian counterpart Ali Akbar Ahmadian and lauded Tehran for its constructive role in the region and expressed India’s interest in expanding bilateral cooperation with the Persian Gulf nation.

Doval called up Ahmadian a day after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan told President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran during a phone call that peace in the region hinged on a just resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with UN resolutions.

Ahmadian told Doval that Iran and India, as two ancient civilisations, shared deep-rooted ties and vast potential for political and economic collaboration.

Doval emphasised Iran’s constructive role in the region and expressed India’s interest in expanding bilateral cooperation—particularly in the development of Chabahar Port and the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC).
