<p>In a major blow to former Star TV CEO Peter Mukerjea and his wife Indrani, the latter’s driver Shyamvar Rai was on Monday made an approver in the Sheena Bora murder case.<br /><br />Rai, who is lodged in Thane Central Jail, had moved an application in the court on May 11 seeking to become an approver and sought pardon. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), too, on May 17, said that they have no objection to making him an approver.</p>.<p><br />There were four accused in the case – Peter, Indrani, her first husband Sanjeev Khanna and Rai. Rai would now be treated as a witness in the case and would give evidence against Indrani and Peter.<br /><br />He had told the Mumbai Police and the CBI that he was driving the car when Sheena was strangulated and later when her body was disposed off in Raigad district.<br />Rai had written a two-page letter to the court seeking pardon in the case while stating that he wanted to reveal everything.<br /><br />However, the legal teams of Peter and Indrani had objected to Rai being made an approver and said that the court needs to satisfy whether he is telling the truth. It may be recalled that Rai had recorded his confessional statement before the magistrate under Section 164 of CrPC, which is admissible in the trial. Sheena Bora was the daughter of Indrani with her first live-in partner Siddhartha Das and incidentally, was in a live-in relationship with Rahul Mukerjea, Peter’s younger son.<br /><br /><br />She was 24 at the time of her murder on April 24, 2012. Her body was found in Pen taluka on May 23, 2012, 29 days after her murder - but no ADR or FIR was registered and just an entry was made in the station diary of Pen police station.<br /></p>
