Bengaluru techie suicide: Suspects flee amid city police team's probe in UP

Bengaluru/Lucknow: A Bengaluru police team continued its investigation in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday following the alleged suicide of a senior tech executive, Atul Subhash (34), in Bengaluru.

Reports suggest that the suspects have fled their homes amid the probe.

Subhash, originally from Uttar Pradesh, was found dead at his residence in Munnekolal on Monday. He left behind detailed notes and a video on social media, accusing his wife Nikita Singhania, mother-in-law Nisha Singhania, brother-in-law Anuragh Singhania, and relative Sushil Singhania of harassment, filing false cases, and other forms of abuse.

The FIR registered for abetment of suicide names the four suspects and alleges that they demanded Rs 3 crore to settle legal cases and, on multiple occasions, coaxed Subhash to take his life.

“The investigating officer will determine whether to issue notices or place the suspects in custody,” a senior Bengaluru police official told DH. A team led by the Marathahalli police inspector was dispatched to Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday to investigate the case.

As police intensified their search, reports emerged that Nisha and Anuragh fled their residence in Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur town at midnight on Wednesday.

Viral videos purportedly showed Nisha walking briskly along a road with folded hands. Reports suggest she folded her hands only when approached by media personnel. The mother-in-law and her son were later reportedly seen leaving on a motorbike, and their current whereabouts remain unknown.

Legal counsel responds

Vijay Mishra, the lawyer representing Subhash's in-laws, commented on the incident, saying: “Subhash’s estranged wife had filed a case for maintenance against him. We are unable to understand why he took this step. It is unfortunate, and only a thorough investigation will reveal the truth.”

Since Wednesday, media personnel have been stationed outside the Singhania residence, but the family has declined to provide any statements.
