<p>The Prime Minister’s challenge to expose the skeletons in the BJP’s cupboard has set a confrontationist tone in the monsoon session of Parliament.<br /><br />“Their (BJP) step up in attack is running parallel to the pace of investigations in some terror cases,” Chidambaram told newspersons here.<br /><br />Chidambaram reportedly accused the BJP of campaigning against him and Manmohan Singh because “they (BJP) think this government is seriously pursuing the bomb blast cases in which right wing fundamentalists are involved”.<br /><br />Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley, meanwhile, raised the scale of attack against the Prime Minister and home minister for their alleged role in the 2-G scam. Instead of maintaining “arms distance”, PM was “hands on as far as telecom policy is concerned,” he said.<br /><br />Referring to Chidambaram, Jaitley said the Prime Minister has already agreed that the then telecom minister A Raja and then finance minister (Chidambaram) had in a meeting on July 4, 2008 explained the lower entry fee rationale to him.<br /><br />“The government has now admitted that when some of the companies which were issued a license and spectrum, went for issuance of additional equity in favour of some foreign entities, the then finance minister was fully involved and the Prime Minister was informed that the sale of equity was as per the FDI policy,” Jaitley said.<br /><br />The home minister said some BJP leaders had told him in private that they do not believe that he, as finance minister in 2007, had anything to do with the 2G scam.“All I can say is that there must have been some reason to target the PM and me...,” Chidambaram said. Asked whether he would depose as a witness before a court in the 2G scam, Chidambaram said, “They are arguments of counsel of law.”<br /></p>
