Stripped of hijab, assaulted: Muslim girl, Hindu boy thrashed by mob in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: A mob, reportedly enraged on seeing a Muslim girl with a Hindu boy, allegedly stripped the girl of her ‘hijab’ and assaulted the boy in Uttar Pradesh’s communally sensitive Muzaffarnagar district.

According to the reports, the girl’s mother and the boy, identified as Sachin, worked as collection agents with a private bank and the two often went together to collect the instalments of loans from people.

On the day of the incident, the woman sent her daughter with Sachin.

While returning after collecting the instalments on a motorbike, a mob stopped them at Darji Gali in the Muslim dominated Khalapar locality of the town. After ascertaining that the boy was Hindu, the mob thrashed him, removed the ‘hijab’ of the girl and slapped her. They also made a video of the incident.

They were rescued by the police, which reached on the spot after receiving the information. According to the police sources here, six persons have been arrested in connection with the case and efforts are on to identify others from the video, which went viral on social media on Sunday.

Although the incident happened on Saturday, the police swung into action only after the video surfaced on social media a day later.

A few months back, two Muslim girls were assaulted by a mob on suspicion of roaming with Hindu boys in Saharanpur town of UP. The mob threatened to inform their parents when the boys turned out to be Muslims.
