Rashtra Gaurava Samrakshana Parishat (RGSP) will observe the centenary year of the formation of Indian Home Rule League of America by Lala Lajpat Rai in the United States of America and Canada, tentatively scheduled for June 2019, said Parishat president and managing trustee T N Ramakrishna.

Addressing reporters here on Monday, he said Lala Lajpat Rai established Indian Home Rule League of America in New York City on October 22, 1918, and the current year marks the centenary of the league.

To mark the same, an 18-month long celebration has been planned in India, wherein special commemoration lectures will be delivered in schools and colleges up to March 31, 2020.

He said that RGSP had organised a special commemoration programme in Singapore on October 21 this year, to mark the platinum jubilee year of formation of provisional Azad Hind Government in Singapore by Nethaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

Visits were paid to Cathey Hall and the war memorial during the platinum jubilee celebrations. About 67 delegates from Karnataka, five from Maharastra and one delegate from Maharastra had taken part in the celebrations.

Ramakrishna, meanwhile, lamented that the High Commissioner office in Singapore, the Prime Minister’s office and the External Affairs Ministry office in India had not extended any support towards the programme, despite requests.

The High Commissioner office in Singapore has also not responded to the letters submitted by RGSP to our high commissioners’ office a year ago, seeking details of the properties owned by Attavar Yellappa in Singapore, he added.
