The body of a youth, washed away in Bhadra river at Ambatheertha near here two weeks ago, was found on Thursday.

Kiran Kotian of Thumbe, had slipped into the river when he had come with his friends on July 26. The efforts of locals, expert swimmers of Ullal, Mangaluru, and NDRF teams to trace his body were in vain.

Some locals found a body floating in the river near Haluvalli at 8.45 am on Thursday. They immediately informed the matter to the police, who saw the body floating in the Bhadra river near Kagganalla. Expert swimmer jumped into the water and retrieved the body by tying a rope to its waist. The rotten body was pulled to the banks near Magundi Bridge by Bhaskar and the Kalasa police.

The effort, made by Bhaskar in pulling the body from the river which is flowing above the danger level, for over a distance of one kilometre has been widely appreciated.

The body was handed over to his family after the postmortem.

A native of Thumbe village in Bantwal, Kiran was working as an engineer in a private company in Mangaluru. He was standing on a rock when the incident took place.
