'Accidental Prime Minister' a book of lies: Narayanan

Last Updated 01 May 2019, 10:43 IST

Even as the movie Accidental Prime Minister is caught in a raging controversy, former National Security Adviser M K Narayanan on Tuesday dubbed the book on which it is based as a web of lies.

“The book is full of lies; 80 % of the claims are wrong and false,” said Narayanan. He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event organised by the Bharat Chamber of Commerce.

The movie is based on the book "The Accidental Prime Minister: The Making and Unmaking of Manmohan Singh", written by Sanjaya Baru, who was the media adviser to Singh during his tenure as the Prime Minister.

Narayanan also took a dig at Baru, describing him as “nobody.”

“He (Baru) was a small player of the game. He was nobody,” said Narayanan, a former Governor of West Bengal.

Recently, the screening of the Accidental Prime Minister was stopped at a cinema hall in central Kolkata following protests by Youth Congress workers. The Youth Congress later denied its involvement.

On CBI mess

On removal of Alok Verma from CBI Director's post, he said internal dispute "at the highest level of organisations such as CBI is a matter of concern".

He also questioned the selection process of CBI director and said the choice of head of CBI should be done "within the system and not by people from outside."
