Buses to showcase Gandhi’s life history

The Department of Information and Public Relations is celebrating the 150th Gandhi Jayanti by conducting various programmes throughout the state.

On October 2, the department will launch two buses which will has slices from Mahatma Gandhi’s life history in the interiors of the bus. These buses will tour the entire state for two months in two routes.

The first route starts off from Ravindra Kalakshetra and heads to Bidadi, Mandya, Chamrajnagar, Mysuru, Kodagu, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Udupi, Shivamogga, Karwar, Dharwad, Belagavi and Bijapur.

The second route will start off from Ravindra Kalakshetra, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Tumakuru, Chitradurga, Davangere, Haveri, Ballari, Koppal, Gadag, Bagalkot, Raichur, Yadgir, Kalaburagi and Bidar.

People can take the tour of the bus at its rest stops. The tour program is called ‘Gandhi 150th Karnataka Abhiyaan Chaalane’.

Dinesh H P, joint director, Department of Information and Public Relations, says, “We are also awarding Gandhian Prasanna with ‘Mahatma Gandhi Seva Prashasti’. Prasanna who hails from Heggudo leads his life following Gandhi’s preachings. A special committee headed by Gopala Gowda was set up to decide the most deserving candidate.”

The award ceremony will be followed by an exhibition at Ravindra Kalakshetra, which will walk through the life history of Gandhi. Recorded bhajans will be played every day in the Department’s Gandhi Angala during the scheduled timings.

The department is also releasing a special magazine edition called ‘Varthaa Janapada’ on October 2. Apart from Gandhi Bhavan, the magazines will also be given to schools and colleges.
