It came as a wonderful surprise for the 85 students of Government Tamil Higher Primary School in Austin Town to finally have a playground that they can use on Wednesday.

In association with the 150th year celebration of Bangalore Club, the members decided to provide playground equipment to children in government schools and plant trees. They partnered with a trust fund that helps set up playgrounds for government schools, People4People.

The government school in Austin Town was the first children's playground that they installed and they hope to complete the play equipment installation in all 20 schools within the next couple of months.

President of Bangalore Club R Ramakrishnan inaugurated the playground. Girish Punja, former president, Dr Sunita Maheshwari from People4People and Vimala, head headmistress of the government school were present on the occasion.

Vimala said, "The children are very happy to have received this generous contribution from Bangalore Club and People4People. Our former students are upset that this wasn't available when they were studying here. We are hoping to encourage more students to attend school regularly now."

As for their future projects, Girish Punja said, "We are also planning 6,500 trees near the airport and Chikkaballapur soon. We have also got the permission from the forest department to set up the solar-powered borewells in Nagarhole and Bannerghatta National Park."
