Congress on Saturday slammed the Modi government for undermining the autonomy of the Reserve Bank of India.
“Under Modiji, CBI = Complete Burial of Investigation, while the RBI has now become Restrict Banking in India,” Congress chief spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala said.
He was responding to reports of a top central bank official virtually ticking off the government on respecting the independence of the Reserve Bank of India.
RBI Deputy Governor Viral Acharya said the market can discipline the government not to erode central bank independence, and it can also make the government pay for its transgressions.
“Credibility & Autonomy of Every Institution is being Undermined & Bull-Dozed by an arrogant Modi Govt, drunk with power,” Surjewala said questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi's claims of minimum government.
