West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday demanded Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s resignation over the death of four persons in firing by the CISF in Cooch Behar district. She also “ordered” a CID probe into the incident.

Addressing a rally at Baduria in North 24 Paraganas district, the TMC supremo said Shah being the Home Minister should take responsibility for the incident and tender his resignation.

“Amit Shah should resign. He is the Home Minister and she should take responsibility for the cold-blooded and dastardly incident,” said Mamata. She alleged that the incident was the outcome of a conspiracy hatched by Shah. She also said that she will visit the spot in Sitalkuchi on Sunday.

She urged the remain calm and avenge the deaths by defeating the BJP in the Assembly elections.

“I request everyone to remain calm and cast their votes peacefully. You can avenge the deaths by defeating the BJP in the Assembly elections,” said Mamata.

She alleged that BJP was conspiring to kill people after realizing that that they will lose in the elections.

“Since BJP knows that the people’s mandate will not be in it’s favour it is conspiring to kill them,” said Mamata.

Speaking to reporters in Siliguri later in the day, the Chief Minister said that she will order a CID probe into the incident.

“Perhaps the Election Commission (EC) will say that I am violating the model code of conduct but I cannot remain silent when people’s lives are at stake. I am still the Chief Minister of the State. Our Government is still in power and will also be in power in future. I will order a CID probe into the incident,” said Mamata.

Refuting the claim that the CISF opened fire in self-defense at Sitalkuchi in Cooch Benhar, the Chief Minister asked despite so many media persons present at the spot why there was no footage of the scuffle between the Central forces and the villagers.

“What is the meaning of firing in self defense? Who were they (Central forces) defending themselves against? Has anyone of them got hurt?” said Mamata.

“I have no complaints against the Central forces. But they are committing these excesses under the instruction of Delhi (Centre),” she added.

Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Home Minister of peddling lies against her, the TMC supremo warned them not to consider her as weak. She also said that thew TMC will hold protest demonstrations against the incident
