KCR, Chiru meet PC over Telangana

While Rao demanded a time-frame for the formation of the new state, Chiranjeevi apprised the minister of the “deteriorating” law and order situation and reiterated that Andhra Pradesh should not be divided.

“It was a satisfactory meeting,” Rao told reporters after a 30-minute meeting. The TRS chief, who is spearheading the movement for the separate state, said he will also meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to discuss the issue.

Chiranjeevi demanded that effort should be made to ensure that schools and colleges functioned smoothly. He said if tension continued, film production houses would be forced to leave the state and open shops in Chennai.

A group of Congress MPs and MLAs from Andhra Pradesh opposing the creation of Telangana met Chidambaram. Union minister D Purandeswari and MP K S Rao were part of this meeting.

The Telangana Joint Action Committee, which held a meeting here on Wednesday, has demanded that the Centre initiate steps for formation of a separate state within a “clear time frame” and resolved to continue its peaceful agitation till the decision is officially announced. The committee also expressed dismay over attempts to bring the element of naxalism in the separate state movement.

“We strongly condemn the campaign indulged by certain individuals and political parties regarding the entry of naxalites in the movement. We resolved to counter this at all level,” committee convener C Kodandaram told reporters after passing a resolution in this regard.
