News highlights: Thales looking at providing cybersecurity solutions for Indian armed forces

Leading French defence major Thales Group is planning to focus significantly on addressing requirements of the Indian armed forces for new-age cybersecurity solutions, artificial intelligence and advanced capabilities in big data analytics.

Chairman and CEO of Thales Group Patrice Caine said the company has been looking at expanding its overall footprint in India, particularly in the areas of emerging technologies that will be crucial for the armed forces. - PTI.

. A couple and their three children were killed and two other kids suffered minor injuries after a wall of their house collapsed on them in Jogulamba Gadwal district, police said on Sunday. The incident occurred in Kothapally village on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, they said adding some villagers informed police about the incident this morning. - PTI.

. Narcotics Control Bureau arrested a second foreign national from Goregaonin connection with the cruise drugs bust and seized an intermediate quantity of drugs from him. He will be produced in the court. The agency said he is the key person of the investigation.

. Telecom Secretary K Rajaraman has asked state-owned telecom research and development organisation C-DoT to start working on 6G and other futuristic technologies in order to catch up with the global market in time, a statement said on Sunday.

Samsung, Huawei, LG and some other companies have started working on 6G technologies which is said to be 50 times faster than 5G and is expected to be commercially launched between 2028-2030.

As per theoretical calculations, peak data download speed of 5G is pegged at 20 gigabit per second (gbps). However, Vodafone Idea has claimed to have achieved the highest peak speed of 3.7 gbps during trials in India. ( PTI )

. "The panic ensued after GAIL sent informed Bawana gas power plant that it will stop supplying gas after 2 days because their contract was about to expire. I have asked GAIL CMD, who participated in today's meeting, to continue the required supplies.GAIL will continue supplying the required amount of gas to power stations across the country. Neither there was any shortage of gas in the past, nor will it happen in the future," Union Power Minister RK Singh told ANI .

. Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Sunday termed as "condemnable" a Dalit person being beaten to death in Rajasthan's Hanumangarh, and questioned the silence of the Congress.

In a series of tweets in Hindi, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said, "A Dalit was beaten to death in Rajasthan's Hanumangarh. This is very sad and condemnable, but why is the Congress high command silent over it."

A Dalit man was allegedly beaten to death on October 7 by a group of men in Hanumangarh over his love affair, the Rajasthan police said. Three people have been detained in connection with the case on Saturday. ( PTI )

. Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) remained net buyers to the tune of Rs 1,997 crore so far in October as India continues to be a competitive investment destination from a long-term perspective.

As per depositories data, Rs 1,530 crore was invested by FPIs in equities and Rs 467 crore into the debt segment between October 1-8.

The total net investment stood at Rs 1,997 crore.

FPIs have been net buyers for two consecutive months and have invested Rs 26,517 crore in September and Rs 16,459 crore in August.

"A stand out feature of FPI flows in recent weeks is the outflows from banking and inflows into IT," said VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services. ( PTI )

. Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has said the entire Haj 2022 process in India will be 100 per cent digital. Naqvi on Saturday inaugurated an online booking facility at the Haj House in Mumbai and later in a statement said India sends the second largest number of Haj pilgrims after Indonesia.

He said the Haj could not take place in 2020 and this year due to Covid-19 and decision taken by the Saudi Arabia government in view of the pandemic. The Haj 2022 will be announced after consultations with different departments concerned in the upcoming Haj review meeting to be held in New Delhi on October 21, the statement said. ( PTI )

. The court cases filed by aircraft lessors to recover their dues don't assist anybody very much and all such disputes eventually end in settlements, SpiceJet CMD Ajay Singh said last week.

SpiceJet employees are now being paid their full salaries on time and all issues related to their pays have been resolved, he told PTI in an interview.

Delhi High Court last month restrained SpiceJet from transferring a part of its assets to a separate company after Goshawk, one of the airline's aircraft lessors, filed a case to recover its pending dues of approximately USD 25 million.

On September 3, a section of employees of SpiceJet went on a short strike at the Delhi airport over issues related to reduced salaries and their irregular disbursement. ( PTI )
