<p class="title">Class X and XII students of CISCE schools, who are gearing up for their 2019 board examination, will get another chance to pass in case they fail.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) on Wednesday announced it's decision to conduct compartmental examinations for both Classes X and XII from 2019.</p>.<p class="bodytext">There was no such provision until now for the students failing to clear the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) examination (Class X board) and the Indian School Certificate (ISC) examination (Class XII board).</p>.<p class="bodytext">Such candidates had to appear afresh in the board examinations the next year.</p>.<p class="bodytext">“Compartmental examination will be conducted from 2019,” CISCE chief executive and secretary Gerry Arathoon said in a statement.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Candidates will be permitted to appear for “one subject only.”</p>.<p class="bodytext">“This examination will be held in the month of July and the results will be declared in the month of August,” he added.</p>.<p class="bodytext">From 2019 onwards, admission cards along with customised timetable will be provided to the schools/examination centres online in order to ensure timely receipt of documents by all personnel involved in the conduct of ICSE and ISC examinations, he said.</p>.<p class="bodytext">“For the ICSE examination, in addition to the subject-wise marks, paper-wise marks will also be provided for English, History, Civics, Geography and Science on the statement of marks,” he added.</p>.<p class="bodytext">From 2021 onwards, all candidates will be required to “compulsorily” study the prescribed Shakespearean play, prose (short stories) and poetry under the subject Literature in English (English paper-2) at the ICSE and ISC levels.</p>.<p class="CrossHead">Upward mobility</p>.<p class="bodytext">“To bring about upward mobility, the Council will be tweaking the syllabus and question papers of certain major subjects in Classes IX and X to align it with the curriculum of Classes VI and VIII (from 2021 onwards,” Arathoon said</p>.<p class="bodytext">From the academic year 2019, training programme will be mandatory for teachers in “major subjects” at the elementary, ICSE and ISC levels, he added.</p>
