Water tanker hits Qatar airways at Kolkata airport

A Doha-bound aircraft was hit by a water tanker at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Board International Airport in the early hours of Thursday. According to airport officials there was no casualties in the incident.

The water tanker collided with the aircraft at around 2.30 am on Thursday. Even as passengers were boarding the aircraft when the incident took place, no one was injured in the collision. The aircraft belonged to Qatar Airways.

“On 1/11/2018 at around 2.30 am a water cart (tanker) hit Qatar Airways aircraft. The aircraft has been grounded and Directorate General of Civil Aviation inquiry has started,” said an airport spokesperson.

“There was 101 passengers and 12 crew members including two pilots were on board when the incident took place. No injuries have been reported and all other operations are normal,” said the spokesperson.

“Prima facie it seems that there were some issues with the tanker’s brakes. The incident will be thoroughly investigated,” said an airport official.
