Coach of Madurai Express derails at Khandala, none hurt

A coach of the Madurai Express derailed at Khandala railway station on the busy Mumbai-Pune route in the early hours of Friday.

There were no casualties or injuries to anyone, officials of the Central Railway (CR) said. However, several trains were cancelled or diverted.

The CR officials said one general Second Class-cum-Guard’s Brake Van (rear coach bearing no.99703) of 11043 LTT- Madurai Express derailed at Khandala. The incident occurred at 2.44 am.

The train left the site for its onward journey and arrived at Pune around 7.33 am.

One General Second Class coach and one General Second Class-cum-Guard’s Brake Van were attached to the train at Pune to accommodate the passengers.

Tea and breakfast were served to 900 passengers, including passengers who boarded at Pune station. Catering Inspectors were deputed on the train up to Solapur.

The cancelled trains are: 51317/51318 Karjat-Pune-Karjat Passenger; 12127/12128 CSMT-Pune-CSMT Intercity Express; 11010/11009 Pune-CSMT-Pune Sinhagad Express and 12126/12125 Pune-CSMT-Pune Pragati Express. The 11025 Bhusaval-Pune Express was diverted via Manmad-Daund.
