<p>Greenpeace India, the NGO behind the unique protest programme, said the 'baigan bharta' (a dish prepared with smashed brinjals) would be made on or after February 10 when a final decision on the question of allowing Bt Brinjal in the country would be taken by the government.<br /><br />The environment advocacy group has already initiated an online campaign on the issue and its representatives also plan to visit schools asking children to contribute with a brinjal besides setting up various collection points.<br /><br />"The 'world's biggest' baigan bharta will help persuade (Environment Minister) Jairam Ramesh to save the brinjal and at the same time feed thousands of hungry people in Delhi," Jai Krishna, Sustainable Agricultural Campaigner for Greenpeace, told PTI.<br />He said if Bt Brinjal is grown in India, it could contaminate traditional brinjal farms as well, a point which is being raised by many opposing its introduction.<br /><br />The latest to join the bandwagon in campaign against the plans for commercial introduction of Bt Brinjal was Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravishankar, who said it should never be allowed in market without thorough verification about its impact on health and environment.<br />Ramesh was gheraoed in Hyderabad on Sunday by people opposing introduction of Bt Brinjal in the country.</p>
