<p>Garvit Batra and S Snehadevi Reddy won the under-16 boys’ and girls’ title respectively in the Fenesta National tennis championships at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) complex on Saturday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Garvit outlasted a tenacious Shashank Nautiyal 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 while Snehadevi rallied to score a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory over Pranjalla Yadlapalli.<br /><br />In the U-14 boys’ singles, top seed B R Nikshep of Karnataka emerged champion with a comfortable 6-1, 6-0 win over Sani Jagtiani of West Bengal.<br /><br />The momentum swung sharply in the boys’ final, that lasted three hour and 25 minutes, but it was Garvit who came on top. He took a 4-1 lead in the opening set but Shashank mixed his game well to draw parity at 4-4. However, he couldn’t continue in the same vein and was broken in 12th game by Garvit with a powerful forehand crosscourt winner to clinch the set.<br /><br />Shashank, however, got off to a sound start in the second. He notched up a 5-3 lead and soon it was one set apiece.<br /><br />In the decider, both the players were a spent force and Shashank even called for his trainer. <br /><br />Garvit broke him in the sixth game before serving out the match the very next game. <br />In the girls’ U-14 singles final, Delhi girl Vanshika Sawhney got the better of Mihika Yadav 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).<br /><br />Former India cricket captain Kapil Dev was the chief guest.<br /><br />Results (finals): Boys: U-16: Garvit Batra bt Shashank Nautiyal 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.
