Pollard ready to fire in a big game

Kieron Pollard’s recent record against Royal Challengers Bangalore should give Mumbai Indians some comfort.

In the last four games against Virat Kohli’s men, the burly West Indian all-rounder has essayed three splendid knocks to set up Mumbai’s wins. His efforts of 39 not out (19b), 35 not out (19b) and 70 (47b) is a reflection of Pollard’s ability to finish off games. Ahead of another game against RCB, the all-rounder said he enjoys performing against teams with big players.

“I am always hungry to perform. For me, what gets me going against any team are big players. Big players mean big games. These are the times you want to be counted. Hopefully, tomorrow is a successful one for the team and myself as well,” Pollard said on the eve of the match against RCB.

Mumbai’s inability to win a single game so far has placed them at the bottom of the table. The Trinidadian though was at his usual calm self. “You guys obviously know a lot of cricket, so you give us an idea of what to do,” a smiling Pollard shot back a witty response to the reporters.

“These things happen. It is just a matter of trying to be consistent in what you are trying to achieve, especially at the back end of the innings. I think 190-odd on any ground is sometimes defendable. We aren’t down right now. If we were down right now, we should be home. We have got over those defeats. We have had conversations going. We had talks at different levels of where we need to go forward and actually try and finish off games like those,” Pollard explained.

Krunal Pandya, another key all-rounder in Mumbai’s set-up, hasn’t yet made his mark with the ball. Strangely, Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma hasn’t given Krunal his full quota of overs in all the three games. “Krunal has played an important part for us as a bowler and I'm sure for the rest of the tournament you're going to see more of him. He has bowled zero, two and three so far. Hopefully, tomorrow he will bowl all four overs,” he said.
