Saujanya equals meet mark

Vishal wins men's 100M; Al-Ameen, Jyoti Nivas win team titles

Saujanya K G of Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian College equalled a 44-year-old meet record even as Al-Ameen College and Jyoti Nivas emerged team champions on the final day of the 51st Bangalore University Inter-Collegiate athletics championships at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Wednesday.

Saujanya timed 12.1 seconds to win the 100M, equalling the mark set by Nirmala Uthaiah in 1971. She finished ahead of Meghana Shetty (SJCC, 13.3) and Ompriya (AIBM, 14.2).

 P Vishal Kumar Jain of St Joseph’s College of Commerce struck gold with a timing of 10.7 seconds in the men’s 100 metres. 

He was followed by Sachin BB of National College, who claimed the silver (11.0 seconds) while Chennakeshava (11.3) of GFGC picked up the bronze.

Al-Ameen College timed 3:33.4 to win the men’s 4x400 relay. St Joseph’s College of Commerce (3:38.5) won the silver while Government First Grade College (GFGC) claimed bronze in 3:45.5.

Al-Ameen topped the men’s team event with 79 points while Jyoti Nivas finished with 49 points, just one point ahead of NMKRV College, in the women’s section.
Vishal and Vijaya Kumari GK were adjudged the best athletes in the men’s and women’s sections.
