An engineer from Seemikeri in the taluk who had been to Germany for higher studies has gone missing mysteriously, much to the concern of his family.

Manjunath Churi, 27, son of Siddanna Churi and Mahanandi, is studying MS at the Hamburg University. He has gone missing since June 19. Manjunath had done his BE (electronics and communications) from an engineering college in the city and had worked at a company in Bengaluru for two years.

He went to Germany for higher studies in September 2015 through an assistance from the Devaraj Urs Backward Classes Corporation.

Manjunath was living in an apartment in Hamburg. The youth’s friend Anish Deshpande has informed the university authorities about Manjunath going missing, besides bringing the matter to the notice of the police. The latter have alerted the Indian embassy officials.

Manjunath’s mother Mahanandi said he was sad ever since the demise of his father Siddanna last year. The mother said she received a call from the embassy officials on Monday night to inform her on the incident. The family has contacted Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj in a bid to get Manjunath traced.

The youth’s uncle Mallikarjuna is in touch with the Indian embassy.

District Superintendent of Police C B Rishyant said they were making efforts to take the help of the German police in tracing Manjunath.
