Buoyed by the improvement in SSLC results, where Mysuru district stood at eighth place this year, the authorities concerned have set a target to be in the top five next year.

For this, ‘Mysuru Guri Nooru’, a dedicated programme to improve the SSLC results, will be strengthened with improvised methods.

‘Mysuru Guri Nooru,’ a 10-point programme, which was jointly launched by Education department and Zilla Panchayat on November 14, 2015, will have additional programmes from this academic year. It includes video conferences, remedial classes and training for teachers, among other methods to prepare students for the crucial exam, considered a turning point in their academic life. The video conferences will be held at cluster centres once in two-week across the academic year to hone the skills of teachers as well as students, Education Officer S P Nagaraj also the nodal officer for SSLC exams in Mysuru district.

This time, ‘Mysuru Guri Nooru’ will be active from the beginning of the academic year in June. In the previous year, the programme came into effect only after Dasara vacations. The department has convened a meeting with block education officers (BEOs) and heads of the schools on May 25 to discuss action plan and other initiatives to be introduced further.

Besides, the education department will serve a memo to the schools that have secured below 60% results, just to improve the results from coming years, Nagaraj added.

Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) H R Basappa said, “We are aiming to be within Top five and it is possible with ‘Mysuru Guri Nooru’ programme. Of 232 government high schools in the district, only one school has secured below 40% result.”

The DDPI thanked Zilla Panchayat CEO P A Gopal and the then ZP president B Pushpa Amarnath for taking initiative to introduce ‘Mysuru Guri Nooru’.

According to the data, 21 students have secured above 600 marks out of 625 in SSLC. Shashikanth H V of Adarsha Vidyalaya Government High School in HD Kote has secured 613 marks, emerging as topper. Taluk wise, Periyapatna has topped with 91.56% and  Nanjangud taluk with 81.76% is at the bottom.

Speaking to DH, Pushpa Amarnath, said, “The programme proved that with team work anything can be achieved. The initiative brought parents, teachers, administrators and others under one platform and thus the results improved. We aimed to be on top in the state and it is possible only with teachers effort.” She suggested that the initiative will be more effective, if introduced from early level from class VIII.
