'Dogs named after Tipu in Madikeri'

Union Minister Ananthkumar Hegde said on Sunday that there may not be even 20 people in the state in the last 200 years with the name Tipu Sultan, reports DHNS from Sirsi in Uttara Kannada district.

However, there may be more dogs every street of Madikeri having that name, the minister said in remarks posted on Facebook and Twitter.

Former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and his deputy G Parameshwara wriggled out of Tipu Jayanti programmes by giving techinal reasons, he said in the posts. Hegde claimed Tipu was a cruel ruler.
