Heavy rain inundates Raichur

Hundreds of houses in low-lying areas were flooded following heavy rains in Raichur on Sunday night. It rained incessantly from 11.30 pm on Sunday till 6 am on Monday

Raichur taluk recorded a rainfall of 46.7 mm while it rained 114 mm in the town. A majority of the low-lying residential areas in the town do not have stormwater drains and hence water gushes into houses whenever it rains heavily.

Vehicles parked in front of the houses were submerged in water and residents had to struggle to trace them out. Haji Colony near Basaveshwara Circle had turned into an island. Household articles were washed away in rain water.

Water gushed into more than 100 houses in Heggasanahalli village of Raichur taluk while vast tracts of agricultural land with standing crops of tur and cotton were inundated. 

Yadgir

Yadgir district too received good rains on Sunday night. Rain water entered into government offices on Chittapur Road damaging files. Water also gushed into the godown of Food and Civil Supplies department. It rained 35 mm on Sunday, according to sources. Basavasagara reservoir has been receiving 40,000 cusecs of water while 61,000 cusecs of water is being released into the river.

Dakshina Kannada

Heavy rains lashed parts of Dakshina Kannada district on Monday morning. However, the rain receded by afternoon. 

Owing to rough sea, a boat capsized and two fishermen went missing at estuary in Sasihithlu. The missing persons have been identified as Tejpal and Madhukar. The other five fishermen in the boat swam to the shore.
