Indian team wins bronze at Earth Science Olympiad

All the four members bag medals at the event

The Indian team comprised Sarthak Chandra, Pune; Tanvi Chheda, Mumbai; Shobhit Goel, Chandigarh; and Sharad Mirani, Ahmedabad and Dr R Shankar and Dr T A Viswanath were mentors. Three of them also got recognition as part of International Field Investigation Teams that got the Best field cooperation team award and the Best presentation team award. Fifty students from 14 countries, including Japan, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, the UK and the US, participated in the event, which was organised by the National Taiwan Normal University.

The three-hour theory test and practical test (spread over a day) comprised objective type questions pertaining to geosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere and astronomy.

International student teams, each consisting of six students from different countries, carried out field work in the earthquake-hit Central Taiwan region and came up with their findings about the magnitude of the earthquake etc. All the teams made a power point presentation before a jury.
