<p>Amid fresh incidents of arson in Shivamogga that witnessed violence during Bajrang Dal activist Harsha’s funeral procession on Monday, the police arrested six people in connection with the murder.</p>.<p>The suspects and Harsha (28) faced criminal cases in various police stations in the city and the police sources said the deceased and Mohammed Khasif (30), one of those arrested, fought over communally offensive posts on social media some six months ago. This could be the major reason behind Harsha’s killing that triggered violence in the city, which remained tense on Tuesday. </p>.<p>Besides Khasif, the others arrested are Syed Nadeem (20), Asif Ullah Khan, Rihan Sharief, Nihan and Abdul Afan, aged between 20 and 22 years. Khasif plotted the murder, while the others, except Nadeem and Abdul, were part of the gang that killed Harsha. The others supported them. The police said more people are suspected to be involved in the case and will be caught soon. As many as 12 suspects had been interrogated.</p>.<p>Nine FIRs have been registered and 14 cases booked in connection with the violence that broke out during the funeral procession, the SP said. </p>.<p>The SP confirmed that two cases were registered against Harsha in 2016 and 2017. He was accused of causing communal riots and hurting religious sentiments.</p>.<p>Eight persons who sustained injuries in violence are undergoing treatment in the hospital and around 20 vehicles had been torched. </p>.<p><strong>Curfew for 2 more days</strong></p>.<p>Curfew in Shivamogga city has been extended till Friday morning and schools and colleges will remain closed. The district administration has permitted people to buy essential commodities between 6 am and 9 am. Seven special executive magistrates comprising tahsildars and assistant commissioners have been appointed in four police station limits. They will be part of night-patrolling duties to prevent trouble.</p>.<p>Despite the deployment of around 1,200 police personnel, the situation was still grim as five vehicles, including three autorickshaws and two bikes, was torched in Tipunagar and Koramarakeri in Tunganagar police station limits in the wee hours of Tuesday.</p>.<p>Though vehicular movement appeared normal in the morning, the city came to standstill after 11 am with commercial establishments staying shut for the second consecutive day. The movement of long-distance buses was permitted while the city bus service was suspended.</p>.<p>Additional police personnel including 20 KSRP platoons, 10 DAR platoons and one Rapid Action Force, three superintendents of police, one additional superintendent of police, 12 DSPs, 39 police inspectors, 54 sub-inspectors, 48 assistant sub-inspectors and 819 constables have been deployed in communally sensitive areas across the city.</p>.<p>ADGP (Law & Order) Pratap Reddy, accompanied by SP Laxmi Prasad and deputy commissioner R Selvamani visited the areas including the spot where Harsha was killed on Sunday night. RAF men were deployed in the communally sensitive areas including Seegehatti, Azadnagar, Clark Pet, Kumbarabeedi and Gandhi Bazaar.
