A five-year-old male leopard was killed after it was hit by an unidentified vehicle on the national highway near Gowdagere in the taluk on Monday.
The leopard died of serious head injuries. Forest department personnel rushed to the spot. They suspect that the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday.
The department veterinarian conducted the autopsy and the animal was cremated on the outskirts of the town.
