Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra K V is now familiar with the difficulties faced by the residents of Shishila in Belthangady taluk, to reach the district headquarters in Mangaluru.

“I experienced the hurdles while travelling to Shishila in a government vehicle. Now, I can understand the woes of the residents and the difficulties faced by them in reaching Mangaluru,” he said, after reaching Shishila, the venue of the deputy commissioner’s first “Grama Vastavya”. The ambitious programme was launched by the government to motivate officials from the Revenue department to stay in villages.

The deputy commissioner, after receiving the grievances of the people, said that measures will be taken to reach out to the residents and find a solution to problems. “In the past, Patels and Shyanbogues were staying in villages and were solving the problems faced by the people. A similar system to reach villagers by the officials will be initiated,” he said.

Tourism potential

The DC observed that there is ample tourism potential in Shishila. A proposal will be submitted to the government through the Tourism department, he added.

Under the tourism initiative, safe trekking routes will be identified by the district administration. The Revenue Department had received 138 applications seeking help. Among them, 31 related to pension applications, 14 Sandhya Suraksha applications, 9 widow pension scheme, one old-age pension and 2 manaswini schemes were disposed of on the spot and MLA Harish Poonja distributed the order copies.
