Tremors felt in villages of Western Ghats

Mild tremors were reported in the villages at the foot of Western Ghats in the early morning hours of Sunday.

Vittalnagar near Theerthahalli is the epicentre of the earthquake, which measured 2.2 on the Richter Scale. According to a press release issued by the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Management Centre, the 2.2 magnitude micro tremor was recorded at five observatories across Karnataka.

Residents of villages around Agumbe said that tremors lasted for around six seconds at 1.30 am, Sunday. The district administration has issued a warning about more tremors.

Similar tremors were experienced in several villages under Varahi dam command area in Hosanagar taluk.

According to local residents utensils fell off the shelves following tremors in villages such as Hulikal, Mastikatte, Yadur, Sulagodu, Nidagodu, Hebbalabylu, and Megaravalli. Shivakumar Jois, a resident of Yadur, said that terrified people ran out of the houses and spent the whole night outside.
