Amar phone tapping case: Court frames charges against four

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja charged Bhupinder Singh, Vijay Kumar, Kuldeep Singh and Anurag Singh under section 420 (cheating), 471 (forgery) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of Indian Penal Code finding them prima facie guilty in the case.
The four, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, were also charged under Indian Telegraph Act by the court.

The accused had purchased mobile instrument and used it for illegal interception and prepared the compact disc after forging a letter of Home Secretary of Delhi government and Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Public Prosecutor Naveen Kumar had argued.
The trial against the four accused is to start formally with the framing of charges. The court fixed July 19 as the date for recording of statement of witnesses in the case.
A case was registered by the Delhi Police Special Cell on December 30, 2005 after allegations that Singh's phone was tapped by some unscrupulous elements who also cheated Reliance Company after producing the forged authority letter for the purpose.

During investigations, police arrested Bhupinder Singh, who used to run a detective agency, Vijay, Kuldeep Singh and Anurag in the case.
According to the police, accused Anurag purchased mobile instrument used in interception which he later transferred to laptop and prepared a CD. He also allegedly impersonated himself as Rahul and met Amar Singh, industrialist Ashok Chaturvedi and V Balasubraminan besides some media houses to sell the recorded conversations.
Bhupinder allegedly intercepted the calls then being routed through a particular number of Singh while Kuldeep allegedly used the forged letter in Reliance Company for illegal interception of calls.

Accused Vijay, on the other hand, was alleged to have forged the authority letter on October 22, 2005 following an alleged criminal conspiracy among them.
