New Delhi: The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Tuesday sought a detailed report within three days on multiple allegations of sexual abuse against suspended JD(S) leader and Hassan Lok Sabha candidate Prajwal Revanna.

In a letter to Karnataka Police DGP Alok Mohan, NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma condemned the incident and asked the police to swiftly apprehend the accused, who has fled the country.

“The NCW has been made aware of distressing media reports detailing multiple instances of alleged sexual abuse involving Mr Prajwal Revanna, the sitting Member of Parliament representing the Lok Sabha from the Hassan constituency.

"These reports have indicated that several video clips of a sexual nature, purportedly depicting Mr Revanna engaging in abusive behavior towards numerous women, have been circulated on social media platforms in recent days,” the NCW said in a press note.

“The Commission strongly condemns the incident and is deeply disturbed by its occurrence. Such events not only endanger women's safety but also foster a culture of disrespect and violence against them. We urge prompt and decisive action from the concerned Police Authority to swiftly apprehend the accused, who has fled the country. A detailed report outlining the measures taken must be submitted to the Commission within three days,”  the NCW’s note read.

The women rights body as well as its chairperson Rekha Sharma has been receiving flak for not reacting to the incident promptly.

On the sidelines of an event in Varanasi, Sharma questioned the Karnataka government for letting him leave the country.

“The NCW had taken up the matter and informed the government. We had even registered a complaint but no police action was taken and no arrest was made. Karnataka government needs to give an answer. Several women have allegedly been sexually assaulted,” Sharma told reporters.
