Vote bank politics destroys the entire system: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday accused the Opposition Congress of dividing people on the basis of vote bank politics.

"The Congress is known to indulge in vote bank politics to get into power. Just to get power they will do anything. They can even divide government officers,” Modi said while addressing a rally in Ajmer to mark the end of Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje’s ‘Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra’.

In a scathing attack, Modi said that the Congress is busy serving one family and which is why they do not have time to visit Rajasthan and raise issues concerning people.

Over two lakh BJP booth workers attended the rally which was held hours before election date was announced for poll-bound Rajasthan.

"This vote bank politics destroys the entire system and such people should be discouraged. Today after 60 years the country has got a direction, do not give them (Congress) another chance again,” the PM said.

He also criticised the Congress for mocking and questioning the surgical strikes. "The Congress even mocked our jawans just after the surgical strike was conducted. I wonder why? There is hardly any Indian who would mock our soldiers," Modi said.

Speaking about his women-friendly initiatives, Modi assured that working mothers will get 26 weeks maternity leave, in future.

'Worker for BJP’

Striking a chord with thousands of BJP workers, Modi said he is a worker of the BJP. "I am a worker for the BJP and PM for the nation. Even today if I am invited for a booth level programme, I happily accept the invitation and try to attend it,” he said.

Modi further raised the poll fever in Rajasthan by urging people to vote for the BJP and said that he is ready to share the report card of the BJP government's performance in current tenure in Rajasthan, "I am sure people of Rajasthan will vote for the BJP once again. We are about to complete the second term in Rajasthan and we will be here at your service and to fearlessly give you an account of everything we've done for the benefit of Rajasthan people," he said while exuding the confidence that the BJP will return to power in the desert state.

People wearing black not allowed

Modi's Ajmer rally was crucial after the saffron party lost the Lok Sabha seat in by-polls. Ajmer division has eight seats in the constituent Assembly. Earlier in the day, security was tightened ahead of Modi’s visit.

Fearing protests, people wearing black clothes were not allowed inside the venue. The administration became cautious after thousands of employees who are protesting for the past few weeks had threatened to raise protests in the prime minister's presence.

Raje's Gaurav Yatra was launched on August 4 and was flagged off by the BJP chief in Rajsamand.
