Baghel campaigns in Lucknow, says people voting on issues, not caste or religion

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday campaigned in Lucknow for Congress candidates in Lucknow West, Lucknow Cantt., Lucknow Central and Sarojini Nagar, which will go to the polls in the fourth phase of Assembly elections on February 23.

During the campaign, Baghel said that BJP has completely lagged behind in the first two phases of polling, as this time the people are voting on the basis of issues, not caste or religion. (IANS)

The Congress party in Goa on Saturday accused ministers in the outgoing BJP-led coalition government of trying to poach its candidates by making them offers ahead of March 10, when votes polled during the February 14 assembly polls are scheduled to be counted.

Addressing a press conference in Panaji, state Congress president Girish Chodankar also said that "nobody will be able to save" Congress MLAs from the ire of the voters if they decide to switch over or defect to the BJP after being formally elected. (IANS)

BSP chief Mayawati on Saturday alleged that people, especially those belonging to minority communities, are living in fear under the BJP government and promised that her party will work to ensure social justice to all if voted to power in Uttar Pradesh.

Addressing a rally here, the former chief minister also accused the Samajwadi Party (SP) of working against the interests of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

Manipur polls: NPP candidate's father shot at

A National People's Party (NPP) candidate's father has been shot at by unidentified people in Manipur's Imphal East district, Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh said on Saturday.

The incident took place at the gates of the residence of the party's Andro candidate L Sanjoy Singh when he, his father and some supporters were having an election-related discussion on Friday, he said.

Unidentified assailants opened fire and the candidate's father was hit on the right shoulder, the deputy chief minister, also an NPP leader said.

Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP president Conrad K Sangma met the injured person at a hospital here during the day and strongly condemned the incident. (PTI)
