The relentless media coverage surrounding Dharmendra's health seems to have taken a toll on the family. Despite the family's appeal for privacy and space, the continuous coverage both at the hospital and the residence has upset the family.
A large number of paparazzi have gathered outside his Juhu bungalow since his discharge and continue to capture every movement related to his recovery.
Yesterday, visuals showed media aggressively rushing at his friend and filmmaker Guddu Dhanoa, who had gone to visit the ailing actor. Similar scenes unfolded when Sholay co-star Amitabh Bachchan went to meet him.
Amid all this, a fresh video of Dharmendra’s son and actor Sunny Deol is doing the rounds on social media, where he is seen losing control and lashing out at the gathered paparazzi.
Sunny Deol, on his return from a walk, was seen irked by the continued coverage outside his home and was seen yelling at the media. He said, “Aap log ke bhi Bacche hai, Ma Baap hai, Aise Ch*tiye Jaise Khade Hai, Sharam Nahi Aati? ("You also have children and parents; standing around like absolute fools—do you have no shame?)”
As the video spread like wildfire, netizens came forward and backed the star for schooling the paparazzi and urged them to exhibit more restraint and respect for the family's privacy.
Veteran actor Dharmendra was discharged from the Breach Candy hospital on Wednesday morning (November 12) and is undergoing his recovery at his Juhu bungalow. The 89-year-old actor was discharged from the south Mumbai hospital days after he was admitted there for tests. The family and hospital authorities did not go into any details about the tests or his condition.
In a statement, the family urged for privacy and asked people to respect the actor, reminding them that "he loves you," a reference to how Dharmendra signs off many of his Instagram videos to fans.
On Tuesday, Dharmendra's daughter Esha Deol and wife Hema Malini slammed sections of the media for their false reports. “The media seems to be in overdrive and spreading false news. My father is stable and recovering. We request that everyone give our family privacy. Thank you for the prayers for papa’s speedy recovery,” daughter Esha wrote on Instagram.
Malini criticised “irresponsible” media coverage of the veteran actor’s health in a post on X. "What is happening is unforgivable! How can responsible channels spread false news about a person who is responding to treatment and is recovering? This is extremely disrespectful and irresponsible. Please give due respect to the family and its need for privacy," she wrote.
