Diesel price hits century in Bengal

The price of diesel crossed the century mark in West Bengal on Saturday as it was sold at Rs 100.09 per litre in Cooch Behar district, after a price hike of 35 paise.

In Purulia and Alipurduar districts, official diesel prices per litre are Rs 99.99 and Rs 99.78 respectively while in Kolkata, the fuel costs Rs 99.08 a litre during the day, according to a price list provided by state-owned fuel retailers.

The prices of diesel in Murshidabad and Birbhum districts are close to 99.50. (PTI)

China passed a law Saturday to limit the pressure on children from homework and after-school tutoring, state media said, as the country reforms its ultra-competitive education system. The government has imposed several rules in recent months aimed at combating activities it considers harmful to the development of China's youth. Beijing has already banned minors from playing online games for more than three hours a week in an effort to tackle addiction. It has also launched a crackdown on private tutoring companies, ordering them to go non-profit. (AFP)

HC refuses to allow doctor to sit for exam after excessive leaves due to Covid-19

The Delhi High Court has refused to allow a doctor, who is pursuing a super-specialty course, to sit for his end-term examination by condoning his "excessive leaves" on account of contracting Covid-19 while treating patients, saying that the requirements of training and attendance in professional courses of this nature are beyond its remit.

Justice Prateek Jalan dismissed the petitioner-doctor's plea for condonation of leaves and said that the court's decision did not emanate from a lack of gratitude for the service rendered by doctors during the pandemic, but from the limitations under the regulations governing the course. (PTI)
