Seven-day stock of Covid vaccine left in Delhi: Vaccine bulletin

The current stock of doses for vaccination againstCovid-19 in Delhi will last for a week, authorities said on Monday.

A total of 11,099 doses were administered on Sunday. The data for Monday was yet to be compiled, according to the latest vaccination bulletin.

On Saturday, 1,19,785 jabs were given in the national capital, according to official figures.

According to the Monday bulletin, first doses were given to5,744 beneficiaries and 5,355 people received second doses. (PTI)

Telangana records 453 new Covid-19 cases, three deaths

Telangana on Monday recorded 453 newCovid-19 cases and three related fatalities, taking the caseload to 6,49,859 and death toll to 3,828, respectively.

Active cases stood at 8,242, a state government bulletin said.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation reported the highest number of 68 cases followed by Karimnagar (43) and Warangal Urban (36).

A total of 80,658 samples were tested on Monday. (PTI)

Foreign nationals residing in India are now eligible for vaccination in the country.

Their passports will be considered as identity document for registration on Co-WIN portal.

Covid-19 once again derails resumption of domestic badminton season

TheCovid-19 pandemic continues to take a toll on the domestic season with the Badminton Association of India (BAI) forced to postpone this month's senior ranking tournaments in Bangalore after local authorities denied the permission to host the events.

The first senior tournament (both men and women) was scheduled to be held from August 27 to September 3, while the second event was supposed to be staged from September 4 to 11 and would have marked the resumption of the domestic season after a gap of more than one and a half years.

"Unfortunately the tournaments had to be postponed till further notice as the Bangalore government didn't give permission to host the event due to the currentCovid-19 situation," BAI general secretary Ajay Singhania told PTI.

Kerala reports 13,049 new Covid-19 cases, TPR at 13.23%

Keralaon Monday reported 13,049 fresh Covid cases pushing the total infection caseload to 35,65,574, with the number of people succumbing to the virus rising to 17,852 after 105 more deaths.

As many as 20,004 people have been cured of the infection since Sunday, taking the total recoveries to 33,77,691 and the number of active cases in the state to1,69,512, a state government release said.

In the last 24 hours, 98,640 samples were tested and the TPR was found to be 13.23 per cent. (PTI)

Modified tapeworm drug may help treat Covid-19, study finds

A modified drug prescribed to treat tapeworms may be effective againstCovid-19, according to a study conducted in lab.

The team at the Scripps Research Institute in the US said it was known for 10 to 15 years that the class of drugs called salicylanilides work against certain viruses, but they tend to be gut-restricted and can have toxicity issues.

According to the study published in the journal ACS Infectious Disease, the modified salicylanilide compound overcomes both issues, in mouse and cell-based tests. (PTI)

AP clocks 1,413 new COVID-19 cases, 18 deaths

The active coronavirus case count reduced by 400 even as Andhra Pradesh reported 1,795 recoveries and added 1,413 newCovid-19 cases in the 24 hours ending 9 am on Monday. The state also reported 18 fresh fatalities in a day, according to the latest bulletin. The cumulativeCovid-19 positives in the state now climbed to 19,83,721 at an overall positivity rate of 7.9 per cent. (PTI)

A health pass now has to be shown to eat in a restaurant, drink in a bar, access non-emergency treatment in a hospital or travel on an intercity train, part of a government drive to contain a fourth wave of infections.

Iran says one person dying of Covid-19 every two minutes

One person is now dying fromCovid-19 every two minutes in Iran, state TV said on Monday, as the Middle East’s worst-hit nation reported a new record daily toll of 588 fatalities.

With authorities complaining of poor social distancing, state media say hospitals in several cities have run out of beds for new patients. Some social media users have criticised the clerical establishment over slow vaccinations, with only about 4 per centof the 83 million population fully inoculated.

Total deaths have reached 94,603, the ministry said, while cases rose by 40,808 in the past 24 hours to 4,199,537 in a fifth wave blamed on the highly transmissible Delta variant. (Reuters)

The biggest global artistes like Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, music maestro AR Rahman, and Bollywood stars Saif Ali Khan and Vidya Balan will unite for a fundraiser on Independence Day to raise over Rs 25 crore forCovid-19 relief work.

The event titled "We For India", which will be streamed on Facebook on August 15, will raise funds for theCovid-19 relief missions of philanthropic platform Give India.

70% of Covid-19 tests in Delhi over last three months done using RT-PCR method

RT-PCR tests accounted for over 70 per cent of the total tests conducted to detect coronavirus in Delhi in the last three months, according to government data.

In July,21.79 lakhCovidtests were conducted in the capital. Of this, 15.18 lakh were conducted through the RT-PCR method.

RT-PCR tests accounted for 71.42 per cent of the total 21.88 lakh tests conducted in June and 75.17 per cent of the 21.41 lakh tests conducted in May. (PTI)

Moderna Covid-19 vaccine gets Swiss approval for 12- to 17-year-olds

Swissmedic has approved the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for 12- to 17-year-olds, the Swiss agency said on Monday.

"Swissmedic has carefully examined the application from Moderna Switzerland GmbH for the indication extension and has extended the temporary authorisation for the Spikevax Covid-19 vaccines from Moderna for the prevention of the coronavirus disease in adolescents aged 12 to 17," it saidon its website.
