The Ahmedabad airport suspended its operations for seven hours on Tuesday as a precautionary measure due to cyclone Tauktae, an official said. The airport resumed operations at 5 on early Tuesday morning after remaining shut from 7.30 pm on Monday. But the operations were again suspended at 3 pm as the cyclone brought heavy winds and rain to the city. The operations resumed at 10 pm.

At least 13 persons were killed and many were reported to have been injured as Cyclone Tauktae rampaged through coastal towns in Gujarat, mostly Saurashtra region, dumping heavy rains, flooding and ravaging villages and cities. Read more
The Navy and Coast Guard have so far rescued 317 people on board two barges that went adrift in the Arabian Sea near Mumbai hours before Tauktae made landfall, but 390 more remain stranded or missing from offshore facilities, an official said. Three barges and an oil rig with 707 personnel on board had gone adrift on Monday. These included accommodation barge P305 with 273 persons, cargo barge GAL Constructor with 137 personnel on board, accommodation barge SS-3 with 196 personnel on board and the Sagar Bhushan oil rig with 101 personnel on board, a Navy official said.
While all the 137 people on board the cargo barge GAL Constructor have been rescued, 180 of the 273 onboard P305 have been rescued so far, the official said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Gujarat and Diu tomorrow to review the situation and damage due to Cyclone Tauktae. He will conduct an aerial survey of areas such as Una, Diu, Jafarabad, and Mahuva. He will also hold a review meeting in Ahmedabad later.
Cyclone Tauktae disrupted power supply to 46.41 lakh consumers in Thane, Raigad, Palghar, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and other districts of Maharashtra, the state government said on Tuesday. The electricity supply of 34.14 lakh consumers has been successfully restored. Thane district was the worst hit as the cyclone snapped the power supply of 7.85 lakh consumers, an official statement said. (PTI)

Cyclonic storm Tauktae damaged a sea-facing safety wall and iron gates near the iconic Gateway of India here and some jetty stones in the vicinity also got dislodged due to its impact, civic officials said on Tuesday.
The main structure of the historic monument did not suffer any damage, but a portion of the footpath near it caved-in, they said. (PTI)

A total of 93 power lines in Palghar MSEDCL were disrupted due to strong winds and torrential rains today, disrupting power supply to 1 lakh 98 thousand customers. Due to rain and wind, trees fell on the power lines and today 49 poles of MSEDCL's low-pressure line, 19 poles of high-pressure line and 1 Rohitra centre have been damaged.
