Even as the intensity of rains in the south and central Kerala districts came down on Monday, many low lying parts remained flooded.

The state already received a record northeast monsoon rainfall already.

Parts of the Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Kollam districts were flooded. No red or orange alerts were sounded in the state on Monday.

A yellow alert was issued in eight districts across the state. Five persons, including two children, died in rain-related incidents from November 10.

Meanwhile, Kerala already received the highest ever rainfall during the northeast monsoon as per the data available from the Indian Meteorological Department.

The state so far received 833.8 mm rainfall from October 1 to November 15 this year, which is 105 per cent higher than the normal rainfall of 407.2 mm for the period.

The highest ever monsoon rainfall received in Kerala so far was 823.3 mm in 2010 and 805.4 mm in 1997. Hence this year's rainfall is considered as a new record rainfall.
