Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Monday made light of the Himachal Pradesh “convention” of electing a new party ever assembly poll and predicted that the BJP was set to be in government in the state over the next 25 years.
The state, which goes to the polls on Saturday, has a history of alternating between the Congress and the BJP every assembly election since 1982.
The BJP is committed to women empowerment and is sensitive to their concerns. This is reflected in the 'Stree Sankalp Patra', vice president of the party's Himachal Pradesh unit Payal Vaidya said on Monday.
The state government has been running a series of schemes for women and the dedicated party manifesto for female voters released on Sunday reiterated this commitment towards them, she said.
"What we say, we deliver," Vaidya told reporters here.
Calling the Congress the 'Gangotri' of corruption, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said that the grand old party has laid the groundwork for massive corruption in the state.

A tense atmosphere prevailed at the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation office as councillors of the ruling CPI(M) and opposition BJP clashed with each other over the controversial letter allegedly written by Mayor Arya Rajendran regarding temporary appointments of party cadres in the civic body. Protesting against the Mayor, BJP and Youth Congress marched to the corporation office and staged an agitation outside its gates by shouting slogans, as shown on visuals aired by TV channels. (PTI)

The Congress on Monday challenged the BJP to spell out the promises it has fulfilled instead of making fresh ones ahead of the Himachal Pradesh polls, and said it should seek votes from people based on its report card and not on its manifesto.
The remarks by the party came a day after BJP president J P Nadda released the party's manifesto for the November 12 assembly polls in which he promised Uniform Civil Code (UCC), 33 per cent reservation for women in government jobs and educational institutions, and sops for different segments.
Targeting the BJP, AICC joint secretary in-charge of Youth Congress Krishna Allavaru told reporters at a press conference here, "We want to challenge the BJP on behalf of the people of Himachal Pradesh. They should seek vote not on their manifesto but on their report card".(PTI)

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday announced the names of 12 more candidates, including former Patidar quota leader Alpesh Kathiriya, for the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections. With the Supreme Court on Monday upholding the EWS quota, the BJP lauded the decision and said it is a victory for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his "mission" to provide social justice to the country's poor.

Amid a deepening political crisis in Jharkhand, Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Sunday said he has through his counsel sought a copy from the Election Commission (EC) of Governor Ramesh Bais's request for a "second opinion" in a office-of-profit case.
The request comes in the wake of Bais saying on October 27 that he has sought a "second opinion" in the case and claiming that an "atom bomb could explode any time in Jharkhand", apparently indicating towards his pending decision in the matter.
"I have sought a copy from the EC of Governor Ramesh Bais's request for second opinion in office-of-profit case through my counsel," Soren told PTI.
