The arrested is Govindaraju, the police inspector attached to the Kempapura Agrahara Police Station.

According to officials, the Lokayukta police had laid a trap after the complainant told them about the bribe demand by the inspector. They lay in wait as he approached the Chamarajpet Central Armed Reserve (CAR) grounds.

The police inspector had sought the bribe to help the complainant in a chit fund-related cheating case registered by the Kempapura Agrahara Police Station on December 9, 2025.

Govindaraju arrived at the spot at around 4.30 pm, and once the bribe amount of Rs 4 lakh was exchanged between him and the complainant, the Lokayukta police arrested him.

A case has been registered, and Govindaraju was booked under Section 7a (taking undue advantage to influence a public servant by corrupt or illegal means or by exercise of personal influence) of the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act.

“The complainant has told the Lokayukta police that the police inspector had sought bribes several times previously in the same case. Further probe is underway,” a Lokayukta police source told DH.
