Mumbai: Three held for posing as Naxals to extort Rs 50 lakh from elderly doctor

Two men and a woman were arrested for allegedly posing as Naxals and attempting to extort Rs 50 lakh from an elderly doctor in suburban Goregaon, police said on Saturday. Investigations have revealed that the trio had planned the extortion by watching videos on YouTube, an official said. A 76-year-old doctor, who has a clinic at Pandurang Wadi area Goregaon (east), had on Wednesday received an envelope containing a letter from a Naxal organisation, in which a demand for Rs 50 lakh had been made, he said. Businessman Raj Kundra, an accused in the pronographic content case, on Saturday moved a bail application in a court here, claiming that he was being made a "scapegoat" and that there was not a single evidence in the supplementary charge sheet of him being actively involved in creation of alleged questionable content. The crime branch, probing the case, had recently filed a supplementary charge-sheet against Kundra and three others in the case pertaining to alleged creation of pornographic films and publishing them through some apps. No injuries as 4.3-magnitude earthquake rattles Los Angeles

A small earthquake shook the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area Friday night, but there weren't any immediate reports of major damage or injuries.

The magnitude-4.3 quake struck shortly after 7:58 p.m. and was centered near Carson, about 21 miles (34 kilometers) southeast of downtown LA, according to preliminary information from the USGeological Survey website.

Its depth was reported at about 14 kilometers, the USGS reported.

France recalls ambassadors to US, Australia over sub deal

America's oldest ally, France, recalled its ambassador to the United States on Friday in an unprecedented show of anger that dwarfed decades of previous rifts.

The relationship conceived in 18th century revolutions appeared at a tipping point after the US, Australia and Britain shunned France in creating a new Indo-Pacific security arrangement.

It was the first time ever France has recalled its ambassador to the US, according to the French foreign ministry. Paris also recalled its envoy to Australia.
