New Delhi: Vociferous protests that almost came close to a scuffle between BJP and Trinamool Congress MPs in Lok Sabha on Wednesday marked the introduction of three Bills seeking the removal of Prime Minister, Chief Ministers and Ministers who remain in custody for 30 days in a row facing serious charges.

The Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill 2025, The Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill 2025 and The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill 2025 were referred to a Joint Committee of Parliament with 31 members, whose names will be finalised by Speaker Om Birla soon.

The Bills were taken up for introduction at 2 PM with Birla calling Opposition MPs who had given notices to oppose the introduction, Trinamool Congress MPs rushed into the Well and shouted slogans near the Minister.

Opposition MPs Asaduddin Owaisi, Manish Tewari, KC Venugopal and NK Premachandran opposed the introduction claiming that it attacked the basic structure of the Constitution and the Bills were aimed at targeting the Opposition-ruled governments. Trinamool's Kalyan Banerjee went near Premachandran and Venugopal and shouted slogans while they were speaking.

Venugopal referred to the issue of Shah's arrest while he was the Gujarat home minister and asked about his claim of morality in politics, while the Home Minister shot back saying he had resigned on moral grounds before his arrest in a "fabricated" case and joined the government only after being discharged by the court.

Venugopal claimed that the Bills were to target the Opposition. A number of Opposition MPs also tore the Bill and threw it while the Trinamool Congress MPs moved towards Shah and aggressively shouted slogans.

As a Trinamool Congress MP threw papers near Shah and appeared to catch the mike, Union Ministers Kiren Rijiju and Ravneet Bittu who were behind Shah's seat rushed to shield the Home Minister and were followed by other BJP MPs. Both sides jostled and angry words were exchanged following which Birla adjourned the House till 3 PM. Both sides shouted slogans against each other for some time.

Allegations flew thick and fast with both sides claiming that each were attacked by the other. Complaints were also filed against each other with the Speaker.

At 3 PM when the House reconvened, Shah entered the House and sat in the third row while no minister sat in the first two rows, as protesting MPs were in the Well of the House. Twelve male and two female marshals were also deployed in the House to avoid any commotion.

Shah finally introduced the Bills amid sloganeering and moved a motion to send the Bill to a Joint Committee for further scrutiny.

While BJP's Sambit Patra told reporters that the copies of the bill were thrown towards Shah and a black chapter has been written by the Opposition, Trinamool Congress MP Mitali Bag alleged that two ministers pushed her and she suffered injuries. Banerjee said he did not tore the Bill but he saluted whoever did it, as the Bills were against the Constitution.
