Apple on Tuesday (September 9) launched the new line of iPhone 17 series during the annual hardware fall event in Cupertino, US.
Like the previous iteration, Apple is bring four variants of iPhone 17 series. For the first in more than five years, Apple is bringing major design changes in the new iPhone. Also, it unveiled a special iPhone 17 Air, which takes inspiration from the iconic super slim MacBook Air.
The iPhone 17 Air will replace the iPhone 16 Plus model. It flaunt a super slim design measuring just 5.6mm.
However, due to the design limitation, Apple has removed the physical SIM slot. The iPhone Air series comes with an e-SIM-only model.
Also, to overcome the loss of space for battery, Apple is said to be using a new advanced high-energy-density battery cell and ensure the device lasts a full day under normal usage.
To maintain slim design structure, Apple has incorporated a single camera sensor and LED flash. This way, there won't be any camera bump we see in the current crop of iPhone 16 and 16 Pro models.

The iPhone 17 Air sports a 6.5-inch display, and also feature proprietary C1X, a new cellular modem designed by Apple. C1X is up to 2x faster than C1, and for the same cellular technologies, it is even faster than the modem in iPhone 16 Pro, while using 30 percent less energy overall.
The standard iPhone 17 comes with 6.3-inch screen, 0.2-inch bigger than the predecessor and promises longer battery life.

All the four iPhone 17 series models boasts of Ceramic Shield 2 series guard on the display. It is touted to be the sturdiest glass shield on mobile phone in the industry. Also, it is said to be 3X sturdier than the predecessor. On the back, the iPhone 17 Pro series and 17 Air feature Ceramic Shield (1st Gen). While the Air features titanium based frame, the iPhone 17 and 17 Pro models come with aerospace-grade aluminium casing.
The standard iPhone 17 features a vertically aligned dual-camera module on the back. The 17 Pro and 17 Pro models feature all-new triple camera deco. They occupy a little over 1/3rd of the top panel of the rear side. The rest features separate panel with matte finish featuring the bitten Apple logo.
Also, all the four devices come with IP68 rating, meaning they can survive up to the depth of six metres underwater for close to 30 minutes.

For the first time, Apple is offering ProMotion display panel in a standard iPhone 17 series. Also, all four variants boasts of anti-reflective coating, Super Retina XDR display panel and come with pixel density of 460 pixels per inch (ppi).
Interesting aspect of the iPhone 17 Pro models is that they come with custom-built vapour chamber, a first for an iPhone to date. With this, the devices will be able to remain stable and have efficient heat dissipation while performing heavy duty tasks and playing graphics-rich games or using generative Artificial Intelligence features.

The regular iPhone 17 is powered by Apple A19 processor with five-core CPU, six-core GPU with Neural Accelerators and 16-core Neural Engine to deliver enhanced performance compared to the predecessor. Also, the iPhone 17 Air and the iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max models come with more powerful Apple A19 Pro chipset, which is touted to be the most powerful silicon on a mobile. It promises computer chipset-level smoother performance. It has six-core CPU, six-core GPU with Neural Accelerators and a 16-core Neural Engine. All the four iPhone 17 models support hardware‑accelerated ray tracing to deliver immersive gaming experience.
The iPhone 17 Air features a 48MP Fusion camera system and is capable of capturing 4K videos. Whereas the regular iPhone 17 sports a dual cameras— 48MP Fusion Main and 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide sensor- with LED flash. It can support macro mode, HDR, Portrait Lighting, spatial videos and more.

And, the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max houses- all-new triple-camera module— 48MP Fusion Main sensor, a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide lens and a 48MP Fusion Telephoto lens with LED flash . It can capture HDR photos, support portrait, macro mode, ProRes video recording, spatial videos for Vision Pro.
All the four iPhone 17 series models boasts all-new 18MP centre-stage FaceTime camera. It supports wider field of view and higher resolution — up to 18MP for photos — to capture more detail. Users can also capture photos and videos in portrait or landscape while holding their iPhone vertically. For group selfies, Center Stage for photos uses AI to automatically expand the field of view and can rotate from portrait to landscape to include everyone in the frame. The Center Stage front camera also enables ultra-stabilised video in 4K HDR, and users can now record on the front and rear cameras simultaneously with Dual Capture mode.
All the iPhone 17 models feature N1, a new Apple-designed wireless networking chip that enables Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. In addition to the latest generation of wireless technologies, N1 improves the overall performance and reliability of features like Personal Hotspot and AirDrop.

With a full charge, the iPhone 17 Air can deliver up to 27 hours of video playback. Whereas the iPhone 17 can support up to 30 hours of video play back. And, the iPhone 17 Pro series can last for 37 hours of video playback. All the four models support Qi wireless charging. The iPhone 17 and 17 Pro models can support 40W wired charging speed. And, the iPhone 17 Air can support 20W wired charing.
The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are available in three beautiful new finishes — deep blue, cosmic orange, and silver— with prices starting at Rs 1,34,900 and Rs 1,49,900, respectively.
The iPhone Air will be available in space black, cloud white, light gold, and sky blue, starting with 256GB storage, as well as 512GB and 1TB options— with prices starting at Rs 1,19,900.
The standard iPhone 17 will be available in lavender, mist blue, sage, white, and black in 256GB and 512GB storage capacities. It starts at Rs 82,900.
All the devices can be pre-ordered from September 12, with availability beginning in September 19.
